CARLOS CASTAÑEDA BETWEEN REALITY AND FICTION
-SAME GOAL: FREEDOM-

In Castañeda's Work, the supernatural beings called “Allies” are completely similar to the Siddhas of Moyano's Work.

Since these are “supernatural figures”, we must give them the same treatment as if we were talking about “divine figures”. That is: they are not human figures, they are not men, they are something infinitely more powerful than men and that are “beyond” the perceptual and cultural reach of normal men.
Thus, far from looking for a way to please, beg, entertain, pay homage, offer sacrifices, put oneself at his service, pray and other niceties typical of priestly thought and behavior; and also far from “running away from them”, as the playful type would do; the Witch Matus proposes them as potential ALLIES. Not as “something higher” that must be feared and pleased in order to seek its favor. No, none of that: he points them out as Allies, that is, establishing a RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EQUALS. It is more than evident that we can analogize the “Castañedian” concept of Lace Point with the “Nimrodian” concept of “being inserted in the Cultural Superstructure.”
After all, the insertion of the sleeping virya into the Cultural Superstructure conditions its vision and perception of the world based on what has been socially and culturally established. That is to say: the Cultural Superstructure acts as an interpretive filter of the surrounding reality, thus offering the Cultural Subject a fixed and moderately stable scenario in which to develop.

Impeccability and Honor
It must be said, first of all, that both the concept of Impeccability and Honorability of both authors are often misinterpreted. It is usually seen, for example, Impeccability, as the characteristic that makes a subject “not deviate” from the established ethical or moral consensus. The same thing happens with Honor, that the presence of a cultural premise that is not transcended or resigned establishes a meaning different from that intended by the author.
Both Impeccability and Honorability speak, or indicate, a capacity of the subject that is not related to any type of social agreement. Rather, they are related to what we could call “Ability to Sustain Focused Will.”
For example, in the sense of Impeccability, it would be understood by stating that “impeccable is someone who executes a plan without having deviated from it.” Obviously, this judgment does not take into account, at any time, the result of the plan. In other words: the exercise of Impeccability – and Honor – occurs without taking into account the results of the actions that we intend to value as impeccable or honorable.
